Several players missing for Bay in league opener

FOLLOWING Saturday’s FA Cup victory over Bridlington Town, Whitley Bay begin their Ebac Northern League season this weekend with a trip to Billingham Town.

They will still be without the suspended Callum Anderson and Craig McFarlane, while Denver Morris and Chris Fawcett are unavailable, giving opportunities for some of the younger players to stake their claim for a regular place.

There could also be a place in the squad for David Coulson who has been regaining fitness in the reserves.

Next Tuesday evening, Whitley’s first home game of the season sees them take on Ashington, who are likely to include former Bay defender Gareth Williams as well as striker Phill Bell in their side.

The Colliers finished fifth last season, one point ahead of Bay and with a strengthened squad will prove a tough test for Ian Chandler’s team.
