WHITLEY Bay FC have completed their first summer signing, bringing in Anthony Shandran from Bedlington Terriers.
Shandran scored 40 goals last season, netting 31 of those in the league, and is a welcome addition to the Seahorses squad.
Bay manager Ian Chandler said: “I’ve been keen on signing Anthony for a few years now.
“I think he’ll fit in to our team very well, giving us that directness we sometimes lack.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing him scoring plenty of goals for Whitley.”
The former Burnley, Blyth Spartans and Spennymoor United player was a fans’ favourite at Welfare Park.
He had two spells with the club, the most recent starting in the 2007-08 campaign when he helped the Northumberland side avoid relegation.
The 30-year-old made 42 appearances throughout 2011-12 and as well as scoring 40 goals, he had 12 assists.
In another summer move, former Bay assistant manager Steve Cuggy has joined Newcastle Benfield FC as their assistant manager.
He left Whitley Bay last summer to take on the role of manager at Blyth Spartans but was sacked before Christmas with the Croft Park outfit struggling at the wrong end of the table.
He will now work alongside Perry Briggs, who joined Benfield from Spennymoor Town FC last season, as his number two.
