THE rain never stopped and neither did the goals as the North Shields FC romped to a six-goal success against Blyth Town in their final pre-season outing.

Shields’ goals came from Keith Douglas, John Grey, Paul Gordon, Robbie Livermore, James Luccock and Ross Atkinson.

The Northern League season gets underway on Saturday with North Shields travelling to Alnwick Town, who have returned to the division after a four-year absence.

The Robins won 4-1 on their last visit in 2006-07 when current assistant player/manager Andy Bowman and player/coach Martin Graham turned out.

The season prior the Shieldsmen returned home with a 2-1 verdict thanks to strikes from Eddie Miller and Andy Matthews whilst Paul Gibbs was the sole scorer and match winner in 2004-05.

The Robins’ first home fixture in this campaign is on Wednesday, August 17, against Washington, a side they beat 7-1 in the corresponding game last season, 7.30pm kick off.
