Shieldsmen begin pre-season in Ashington

NORTH Shields FC begin their pre-season programme when they taken on Ashington CFC tonight (Thursday), at the Hirst Park Ground.

The game in Ashington kicks-off at 7pm.

They follow this up with a cross-Tyne derby at South Shields’ Filtrona Park on Tuesday, July 19, at 7pm.

The Robins’ first home outing is against Sunderland RCA on Saturday, July 23, at the Daren Persson Stadium at Ralph Gardner Park.

This is quickly followed by local rivals Whitley Bay making the short journey on Monday, July 25, for a kick-off 7.30pm.

Gala Fairydean from the Scottish Borders are attractive visitors on Saturday, July 30, 3pm, Wearside League outfit Annfield Plain host the Robins on Monday, August 1, 7pm, whilst Blue Square North side Blyth Spartans come to Shields on Wednesday, August 3, 7.30pm.

The scheduled friendly at Penrith on Saturday, August 6, has been cancelled due to the club’s now meeting in a FA Cup extra preliminary round tie in Cumbria just two weeks later.

North Shields boss Anthony Woodhouse, who has added former West Allotment Celtic duo, defender Kevin Hughes and front runner Paul Gordon to his squad, is seeking a replacement friendly fixture.

Should the Shieldsmen be successful against Penrith they will entertain either Newton Aycliffe or Billingham Synthonia at the next stage on September 3.

Whilst in the FA Vase the Robins have been handed a home draw against Northallerton Town.
