TWO goals from Jack McDougal and a 30-yard thunderbolt from Lewis Summerson gave TyneMet College a win over Gateshead.
TyneMet started brightly and had a handful of early chances through their busy centre forwards Kurt Blacklock and Ryan Aplin.
McDougal, Aplin and Blacklock combined well to set up midfielder Summerson who gave an early warning of things to come as he struck a 20-yard effort off the post.
Ten minutes later, Summerson intercepted a loose ball with a good first touch and with his second he let fly with a tremendous shot to give the goal keeper no chance as the ball flew into the top right hand corner of the goal.
Gateshead pressed and had a couple of opportunities on the break, but found goalkeeper Anth Young in good form.
Two minutes from half time Gateshead equalised.
TyneMet came out in the second half in the same way they started the game and fashioned two clear chances which fell to Aplin and Blacklock but once again they were denied by the goalkeeper.
TyneMet continued to press and left back Grant Starling delivered a curling cross into the box where McDougal ran in at the back post and expertly volleyed home.
The lead was extended further, with another dangerous cross from Starling again met by McDougal who side-stepped the covering defender to slot the ball into the corner of the goal.
Gateshead rallied and pulled a goal back with a neat finish and TyneMet again proved dangerous going forward as the clever and industrious Aplin went close again.
