TYNEMET College’s Foundation Learning football team are celebrating victory at a north east tournament held at Sunderland College.
The victorious team won every game they played, scoring a total of 30 goals and conceding only eight.
They beat Newcastle College 4-1 in the semi-finals and then Sunderland College by the same scoreline in the final.
They will now represent all north east colleges at the British Colleges National competition in Bath next year.
The successful team was: Ali Hassan, 18, from Wallsend; Liam Ross, 16, from Newcastle; Daniel Westerby, 17, from Walker; Chrissy Adams, 18, from Blyth; Ryan Thompson, 16, from Shiremoor; Kurtis Barnett, 18, from Whitley Bay; Billy Doherty, 16, from Backworth; Corey Haikney, 19, from Blyth; and Jordan McCarthy, 16, from Wallsend.
Chris Thompson, head of preparation for life and work, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for our students.
“They worked well as a team and I understand that some impressive football was played at the tournament.
“The team will have our full support whilst training for the British College’s National competition in Bath next year.”
