TYNEMET College took on local rivals Monkseaton High School in a derby match, and came away with the points.
It was the visitors who started the brighter with some neat passing exchanges without ever hurting the TyneMet defence.
However, the home team slowly came back into it and Dan Young struck the bottom of the post with a fierce shot.
Two minutes later David Brown opened the scoring for the hosts with a neat volley from inside the penalty box.
As the half wore on Monkseaton struggled to have any real surges into the home teams half and on 25 minutes TyneMet’s lead was doubled when after Young’s corner was met powerfully at the back post by Mark Kelly.
With only seven minutes gone in the second half, TyneMet added a third when Young’s left wing cross evaded the on rushing keeper and Adam Cole had the simplest of tasks to slot the ball into an empty net.
Monkseaton did get a consolation goal as the half drew to a close and following a left wing corner which was not properly cleared, they managed to squeeze the ball home.
