DEFENDER Shaun Utterson said he is delighted to return to his natural position at right back.
Following Tuesday night’s 3-1 pre-season friendly win at Sunderland RCA, the 22-year-old said he was pleased to be back in defence following a season in midfield.
He said: “I played out of position in midfield last season just trying to help out but right back has always been my position and I’m happy to be back there.”
Utterson was highly impressive in the 1-1 draw with Gateshead on Saturday and carried on that form in the win on Wearside.
And he praised management duo Tommy Cassidy and Paddy Atkinson and their influence on the Spartans set up.
“Tommy and Paddy coming in have different ways of doing things and its great to start playing with the lads again and getting used to their system,” he added.
Utterson spoke highly of his team-mates and their performance, not only in the win over Sunderland RCA but also in the draw with local rivals Gateshead.
He said: “We stuck together as a team on Saturday and got a good result against a full-time team, and tonight was another decent performance and we got the win we wanted.”
The full back will again be in the Spartans squad this Saturday as Blue Square South side Tonbridge Angels travel to Croft Park for the next pre-season friendly.
