Striker Gareth Bainbridge came off the bench to score a hat-trick on North Shields’ 4-2 win at Billingham Synthonia on Wednesday night.
The FA Vase semi-finalists were 2-1 down at the time to the first division stragglers.
The Robins had taken the lead on Teesside through Ryan Carr after good work from Kieran Wrightson, but the home side hit back with goals from Michael Sweet and Tommy Marron.
But it was the introduction of Bainbridge and fellow substitute Denver Morris which turned the contest in North Shields’ favour.
Bainbridge scored two inside two minutes before going on to complete his hat-trick and secure the three points for the Shieldsmen.
His first was from a Morris cross before Dean Holmes set up the striker’s second.
The third came when Ben Richardson’s excellent corner was headed into the danger area by Curtis Coppen and Bainbridge was on hand to complete his hat-trick.
The Robins remain in third place, a point behind leaders West Auckland Town, who won 2-1 at Morpeth Town on Wednesday evening, and level on points with Guisborough Town, but with a game in hand on both.
Fifth placed Shildon, who have games in hand on all the sides above them, suffered a shock 4-3 defeat at home to Ashington.
On Saturday North Shields entertain one of the division’s form sides of the moment, Penrith, while both West Auckland host bottom side Crook Town and Guisborough welcome second bottom Celtic Nation to the King George V Stadium.
