The draw for the early stages of next season’s FA Cup has been made and Whitley Bay will face a long journey south to the Yorkshire coast in the extra preliminary round.
But they will be on familiar territory when they face Bridlington Town as the sides met at Queensgate at the same stage of the competition two years ago.
Whitley emerged 2-1 winners on that occasion and they will be hoping for a similar result on Saturday, August 16.
Victory over the Northern Counties East League side would give Leon Ryan’s men a home tie against either Northallerton Town or Lancashire side Colne in the preliminary round.
The draw has also been made for the first qualifying round, where Whitley could face a local derby at Newcastle Benfield or a trip to Cumbria to play either Penrith or Kendal Town.
The draw has also been made for the early rounds of the FA Vase and for the first time since 2006, Whitley will enter the competition in the qualifying stages.
They have been handed a home tie in the second qualifying round against either South Shields or Willington, with the game to be played on Saturday, October 4.
