Whitley Bay are in cup action once again this weekend when they begin their FA Vase campaign.
The Hillheads club are the most successful in the competition’s history, and they will be starting out in the first qualifying round on Saturday with a trip to Northern League second division Willington.
It is 33 years since they visited the County Durham side’s Hall Lane ground in the 1982-83 season when they emerged 2-0 winners.
It was an identical scoreline when they last met, just two years ago in a League Cup tie at Hillheads.
Whitley will have benefitted from having had no midweek game for the first time since the start of the season, allowing them time to prepare for this game.
Whitley are due to play Bishop Auckland in a Northern League fixture at Hillheads on Tuesday, September 8, kick off 7.30pm, but this game would be called off if either of the clubs is involved in a FA Vase replay that night.
