Whitley Bay once again draw Dunston in the FA Vase

It happened last season and it has happened again - Whitley Bay have been drawn at home to Dunston UTS in the third round of the FA Vase.

Twelve months ago Whitley lost what was dubbed ‘the battle of the former winners’ 2-0, so they will be hoping for a change of fortune when the sides meet again a week on Saturday.

Bay manager Leon Ryan said the tie against the 2012 Vase winners was “a really tough draw, but we will do our homework”.

Whitley were first out of the hat in Monday’s regionalised draw, which sees three all Northern League ties and only two of the other sides from the region, Seaham and Consett, playing at home.

Whitley and Dunston have met in the competition no fewer than five times, with Whitley coming out on top on the first three occasions, including a memorable 2-1 victory in the 2010-11 quarter-final at Dunston.

The 32 third round ties are due to be played on Saturday, December 6.
