Whitley Bay Milan Under-18s won the East Northumberland Divisional Cup final after edging out first division rivals Whitley Bay Boys Club at Percy Main’s Purvis Park.
The game finished 2-1 to Milan allowing captain Andy Bassett to lift his team’s first trophy since their promotion to the top division two seasons ago.
The game featured a fine performance by Milan goalkeeper James Glendinning which, along with a goal in each half from Conor Graham and Noah Summers, helped to make sure that the silverware would be on display for the next year in the club’s recently completed headquarters at Foxhunters playing fields.
Milan manager Steve Smith said: “The lads have done the club proud again this year ,and after gaining back to back promotions to the top tier over the last few seasons and then establishing themselves as a force in the division, it is nice to end the campaign on a high.
“Games between these two teams are always a close call and the final proved to be no different, but after being on the wrong end of a result against Wallsend Boys Club in another final on the same ground last year, it is nice to come away with a pot this time.”
