Their final season as a team produced a bumper haul of honours for Whitley Bay FC’s U18’s football team, Whitley Bay Milan.

In addition to winning the Pinpoint Recruitment Under 18 league title, Milan also won the Pinpoint League Challenge Shield and the FA sponsored East Northumberland Divisional Cup.

The team, managed for the last ten years by Steve Smith with the assistance of coach Kenny Thompson, are disbanding after this season as members move on to employment and university.

Only five seasons ago they were languishing in the third division of the Pinpoint league, but back to back promotions into the top-flight and a lot of hard work on the training ground have allowed the side to compete at the top level in what has been a successful final season together.

The manager said: “It’s great to go out on a high. The lads have worked extremely hard this season, playing some great football along the way and have thoroughly deserved all of their success.

“I’d also like to thank all of the parents, players and supporters through the years for their dedication as well as previous coach, Tommy Seymour, who helped me prepare the team over the last few years.”
