Whitley Bay have been drawn at home to Alnwick Town in the Second Round of the Northumberland Senior Cup.
The sides met at the same stage of the competition last season, on that occasion at Alnwick’s St James’ Park ground. In a 10-goal thriller, the north Northumbrians took a shock two-goal lead and were 2-1 ahead at the interval. However, Whitley stepped up a gear in the second half as Paul Chow notched a hat trick and the outcome was an entertaining 7-3 victory. Alnwick, who beat Heaton Stannington 5-3 in the First Round, are a much improved side this season and their chairman Tommy McKie said he was very happy with the draw. Whitley will be strong favourites but as last season’s encounter proved, they can take nothing for granted and will need to be on form if they are to progress to the semi finals.
Blyth Spartans take on Ashington while Newcastle United Reserves are at home to Team Northumbria. Morpeth Town will be at home to West Allotment Celtic, who have been reinstated after their First Round opponents Newcastle Benfield were disqualified for fielding an ineligible player.
The tie will be played on Tuesday, November 18.
