Whitley Bay are without a fixture this a weekend so their next game will be on Tuesday evening (October 1) when they take on Willington at Hillheads in the first round of the League Cup.
Willington have an illustrious history and won the FA Amateur Cup at Wembley in 1950, having been finalists in 1939.
Founded in 1906, they first joined the Northern League in 1911 and enjoyed continuous membership until their relegation from division two in 2005.
Following a spell in the Wearside League, they were promoted back into the Northern League this season but have struggled so far, with only one win from their ten games.
Whitley will be clear favourites to progress to the next round where an away tie against Washington awaits the winners, but given their disappointing start to the season, they can take nothing for granted.
However, this game presents Ian Chandler’s side with an ideal opportunity to restore confidence and morale ahead of a tough series of games later in October, when big spending sides Shildon and Spennymoor are among their opponents.
