Two young footballers are going to be living the American dream after landing prestigious football scholarships in the USA.

Newcastle-based Rhianna Telfer, of Tyne Metropolitan College and Whitley Bay Women’s FC, and Heaton-based Daniel Surley, of Heaton Manor Sixth Form and West Allotment Celtic FC, will be heading to the USA this summer.

Rhianna will be joining Delta State University located in Cleveland, Mississippi and play for the “Lady Statesmen” soccer team.

Daniel will be joining Averett University located in Danville, Virginia and and play for the “Cougar” soccer team.

Both will have the opportunity to combine their university studies alongside playing high level football for the next four years.

The scholarship has been gained through the assistance of PASS4Soccer Scholarships who are based at Tyne Metropolitan College.

Rhianna is delighted to have secured a soccer scholarship through the PASS4Soccer Scholarship Network.

Rhianna’s achievement in winning such a high value scholarship and placement is in recognition of both their academic achievements to date and her athletic ability as well as impressive performances in the PASS4Soccer US Coach Showcase held at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre in December 2015 and also the US Tour in April 2016.

Rhianna had the opportunity to visit the USA for a week and play against top university sides while recruiting coaches from the surrounding states attended the games.

Places in the PASS4Soccer Network Program are now available for students seeking to enter a US university soccer programme in August 2017 and 2018 PASS4Soccer will be holding trials in the following locations:
