More than 600 pupils from 23 schools in the borough took part in North Tyneside Council’s annual Festival of Sport.
The action-packed day held at The Parks Sports Centre in North Shields gave Year 4 pupils the chance to try more than 20 sports and activities, including basketball, handball, athletics, rugby, Street Golf, Street Tennis, dance, judo and dodgeball.
Coun Eddie Darke, cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “Our Festival of Sport showcases a huge variety of activities and we aim to give children from as many schools as possible a taste of what’s available in our borough.
“Today’s event is the ideal place to try something new and link up with our local clubs and associations.”
On the day, pupils from Southridge First School in Whitley Bay took first place, with Holystone Primary in second.
