Bay players head for Newcastle v Middlesbrough match

THE dream came true for Whitley Bay players at Wembley yesterday when they lifted the FA Vase Trophy.

But none more so than skipper David Coulson, who led his team out on to the hallowed turf.

The captain, who is a postman by day, said to come away with the win and the trophy was unbelievable.

"The boys performed excellently and it was a great game," he said.

"All the best to Glossop they played really well, but I just thought we showed our class.

"They were two great goals from Chow and Sparky (Lee Kerr]."

In the run up to the game, Coulson said it would be a dream come true to go to Wembley and win it, and it was a 2-0 victory that sealed the result.

After the game the thousands of Whitley Bay supporters saw Coulson climb the steps to the Royal Box and be the first north east captain to lift a trophy at Wembley.

"This is what football is all about," he added.

"The fans have made a massive trip and we as a team deserved the win, but so did the fans.

"The amount of supporters who have travelled is unreal."

Coulson will now lead his team on to the pitch at St James' Park tonight where the team will show off their trophy at half time in Newcastle's home Premier League game against Middlesbrough.
