The annual Beverley Park Tennis Club Championships have taken place.
A special award of a year’s free membership of the club was given to the two most improved under-10 juniors, Christopher Whiting and Heather Downie.
The most improved under-16 players were Daniel Walker and Emily Rickards, and the Cartledge Cup for endeavour was awarded to Jamie Farnworth.
Boys’ U18 singles (Crawford Cup): Dom Widdas beat Philip Williams 7-6, 2-6, 6-1.
Boys’ U16 singles (Robinsons Optometrist Trophy): Cameron Barlow beat Jamie Farnworth 6-2, 6-2.
Boys’ U14 singles: Dan Walker beat Nick Duffy 5-1, 5-2.
Boys’ U18 doubles (Clark Shield): Cameron Barlow/Philip Williams beat Rob Dean/Jamie Farnworth 6-2, 6-2.
Boys’ U16 doubles Cameron Barlow/Jamie Farnworth beat Dan Walker/Nick Duffy 6-1, 6-1.
Girls’ U14 singles: Lucy Maughan beat Georgia Widdas 5-4, 4-1.
Girls’ U12 singles (The Stead Cup): Eve Farrell beat Kathryn Bradbeer 4-1, 4-2.
Girls’ U12 doubles: Pia Rospel/Shanti Rhodes beat Kathryn Bradbeer/Eve Farrell 4-1, 5-4.
Girls’ U14 doubles (Spence Cup): Georgia Widdas/Millie Leather beat Joanna McColl/Lucy Maughan 4-1, 4-1.
Girls’ U16 doubles: Georgia Widdas/Lucy Maughan beat Millie Leather/Joanna McColl 4-2, 4-1.
The senior championships saw some excellent play, with the ladies’ final being between two former champions.
Ladies’ singles: Stephanie Parker beat Jane Pledger 6-2, 6-4.
Men’s singles: Peter Carmichael beat Michael Widdas 6-2, 6-3.
Ladies’ doubles: Jane Pledger/Lisa Kennedy beat Julia Carmichael/Norah Rogers 6-1, 6-3.
Men’s doubles: Peter Carmichael/Michael Greig beat Michael Scrafton/Sean Allen 7-5, 6-4.
Mixed doubles: Jane Pledger/Achim Trueman beat Julia Carmichael/Jon Pope 6-1, 6-4.
The trophies were presented by Mrs Gwyn Cartledge, the club’s life president, and members and guests then enjoyed an evening barbecue.
