Crucial games ahead for Whitley in League and Vase

THE next two weeks could be crucial in terms of Whitley Bay’s season as the face West Auckland away and at home.

Ian Chandler’s team travel to Darlington Road on Saturday for a vital top of the table Northern League game. West took over at the top last week with Whitley two points behind but having played four more games. Both sides are on lengthy unbeaten runs, with Whitley’s now extending to 12 games, the best in the league. A win for the Bay would appear to be essential to maintain a serious challenge for the title but having beaten Whitley twice back in the autumn, West will be confident of success on their sloping home ground.

Saturday’s match could well be affected by the fact that both sides will inevitably be thinking ahead to the following weekend when they meet again at Hillheads in the FA Vase fifth round in what is a huge game for both sides.

In some respects it is unfortunate that two such crucial games should be scheduled for consecutive weekends but for the fans it amounts to an exciting couple of weeks.

While it is not an all ticket game, Whitley will be selling tickets advance for the FA Vase tie in order to reduce the queues at the turnstiles on February 11. The tickets, at the usual Northern League prices of £6 and £4 for concessions will be available at this weekend’s game and also from the club during next week, times to be announced on the club website: www.whitleybayfc.com
