Invitation to go that extra mile for charity

SCHOOLS and early years groups are being invited to put on their running shoes for charity.

The various organisations are being urged to get active for Sport Relief weekend, which will start on Friday, March 23.

In 2010, schools and early years groups in the north east raised £190,000 for the charity drive.

Organisers are now hoping to beat that figure this year.

A free school fundraising resource pack has been created to help teachers, featuring ideas on how to raise money, posters, balloons, stickers and lots more.

Schools are also invited to take part in Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile, with pupils able to complete the course by running, skipping, dancing or other means.

Aleks Leimanis, schools and youth manager at Comic Relief, said: “Schools and early years groups are some of the best fundraisers for Sport Relief and we are eternally grateful for their dedication and hard work.”
