Moore starts professional dream

CHRIS Moore has left Whitley Bay to sign for professional outfit Darlington.

The pacey winger played his last game for Bay on Tuesday night against Newcastle United Reserves, where he took the chance to shake hands with some of the Hillheads supporters before departing.

He played a prolific part in last year's Wembley win in the FA Vase, and with Bay reaching the semi-finals once again this season, he looks to have given up the chance of a second trip to the home of football.

Not many expected Moore, 26, to turn down the chance to play professionally.

But on the Darlington FC website today, manager Steve Staunton said: "I wasn't expecting it but from the boy's point of view he's been given a chance at a professional club and he played at Wembley last year so maybe he's thinking 'I've done that, let's move on and see if I can hack it at a higher level'."

Staunton also praised Moore's ability on the pitch, adding: "He's hungry, and a determined young man.

"He has plenty of pace and he's a good crosser of the ball and an eye for a goal so he'll be a good addition for us.

"What I like about him is that he's got a good variety of crosses.

"For someone in the lower leagues, his variation of crossing is excellent."
