Remembering former runner

A FORMER runner will be remembered by friends and former colleagues ten years after his death.

Members of North Shields Polytechnic Club are holding a special memorial service for Dave Scanlon at their clubhouse at Monkseaton’s Churchill Playing Fields on Tuesday, February 14.

Friends, officials, coaches and volunteers will hold a minute’s silence at 6.45pm.

Dave joined the club in December 1951 and was made a life member in October 1977.

Friend Tommy Brannon said: “His smile was as broad as the North Yorkshire Moors.

“He was due to retire that year and spend more time at home with his loving wife Margaret.

“Everyone who ever met him will remember him for what he was.”
