Royal Arms miss out in nine-goal cup classic

BEDLINGTON Community hosted North Shields Royal Arms in the re-arranged County Minor Cup quarter-final – and it turned into a classic with end-to-end action.

The hosts were the first to score but were quickly pegged back, and every time they scored the Royal Arms equalised until seven minutes from time when they went 5-4 in front and held out for the win.

Goals for Community came from Antony Harrison (3) and Jamie Graham (2). Alan Batiste and Les Thompson scored goals for Royal, with two each.

In the Alan Davison Cup quarter-final, Monkseaton Arms put in a good performance at home against Blyth Comrades, before going down 2-1. Antony Brannon scored for Monkseaton.

The SA Randolph Cup quarter-final saw Ashington Mortimer take on Burradon and New Fordley, with Burradon easing into the semi-final with a 3-0 win.

The premier division saw a close game between North Shields Gunner and Newbiggin.

Gunner gained a valuable three points in the 2-1 win with goals from Stephen Hayward and Kevin Watler.

In division one, High Street went down 4-1 at home against Blyth Seahorse.

Ashington Grand had to fight all the way to win at home against Blyth Masons Arms.

Grand took an early lead but found themselves 3-1 down with ten minutes left. A spirited fight back by Grand saw them claw their way to victory, 4-3.

Division two saw Ashington Bubbles take the points in a seesaw battle at home against West Allotment.

With the scores level at 2-2, Allotment had a penalty well saved by the home keeper before Bubbles won it 3-2. Michael Hartley and Sam Todd scored for Allotment.
