Top England coach helps train players at TyneMet
England U17 coach John Peacock with Tyn Met College Football Development players.
A SELECTION of players from TyneMet College’s football development centre have been given a training session from one of the country’s leading coaches in the game.
England Under-17 manager John Peacock held the coaching session through Northumberland FA’s ‘Coach the Coach’ scheme.
John, who has been with the FA since 2002, specialises in youth development and coach education and is the FA’s head of coaching.
He holds an FA Academy Director’s Licence and UEFA Pro Licence.
He put the players through a variety of different training drills and sessions in front of more than 100 youth coaches who were looking on.
The Coach the Coach initiative aims to ensure local coaches get the best possible training at the grassroots level by offering specialist training clinics for those guiding youngsters.
The scheme is being led by the Newcastle United Foundation, the club’s own charity, in partnership with the Northumberland FA and Complete Football in Gosforth, Newcastle.
Monthly education clinics will be held at Complete Football, where the objective is to provide practical support to both paid and volunteer coaches to support the development of talented young players from this region.
Organisers Newcastle United Foundation and John Peacock were very impressed with the level of performance and the attitude displayed by the players during the event, allowing John to deliver a coaching session that required a high level of technical competence and complex nature.
Neil Baistow, head football coach at TyneMet, said: “I am delighted that players from TyneMet College were given this fantastic opportunity.
“To be given the experience of playing in coaching sessions of such a high standard from a national FA member of staff.
“This is a unique opportunity that only comes about because of the partnership we have with Newcastle United Foundation.
“I know that the players are already looking forward to the next event at Complete Football in March.”
