Working hard to boost the Main

IT HAS been a busy close season so far for all at Northern Alliance First Division side Percy Main Amateurs who have been working hard to progress the club both on and off the field.

Last week The Main were awarded FA Charter Standard Adult status, in recognition given to non-league clubs who can demonstrate they are well run and sustainable, while recognising the club's commitment to coaching, player and coach development and the raising of standards of behaviour in the game.

It has many benefits including the enhancement of future funding applications and bids for improvements to the facilities at the club's Purvis Park ground, while kit and equipment grants from the Football Foundation will become more readily available.

The Villagers have commenced pre-season training and have currently lined up testing friendlies against Wideopen, Seaton Delaval, Shankhouse and Harraby, while the annual Gary Hull Memorial Trophy match will once more see Percy Main pit their wits against North Shields on Saturday, August 1 – more details are available on the club's website, say organisers.

The recent formation of Percy Main AFC Ladies has also seen the team start training in earnest and team managers Rob Meldrum and Aiden Regan have been boosted by up to 20 players attending sessions, with pre-season friendlies to be announced before the Northumberland Women's League starts in earnest on August 30.

Percy Main are also supporting St Oswald's Hospice and are to provide marshals for the Charity's 'Midnight Walk' event held at Gosforth Park this Saturday, July 4.

St Oswald's hope to raise more then 100,000 from the walk and the football club are proud to be supporting such a worthwhile cause, while Percy Main will also field an athlete in September's BUPA Great North Run who will take part to raise further funds for the charity.
