MILES Pearson won an impressive singles at Blaydon 4-1, 4-0 to cap victory for Collingwood Tennis Club in their Northumberland and Durham boys’ 16s fixture last weekend.
Olly Drake and Dan McDermott earlier had convincing singles wins.
Pearson combined with Matt Robson but lost a close doubles in the third set 10-7 but capped a good day by winning the last singles for a 4-2 win.
Collingwood girls’ green ball team lost 5-1 to a strong County Ground.
The team of Clara Loughlin, Mia Wallace, Anna Winship and Libby Hall competed well but only Winship was able to come up with a singles win, albeit in impressive style.
Collingwood’s nine and under orange team won a close game against an experienced David Lloyd 6-4.
Star for the home team was Josh Harrison, who won both singles and combined well with Sam Thompson to win the doubles giving four points to the home team along with Thompson’s singles win.
In a team effort, Jack Boddy and Ben Kernohan also had good singles wins to overcome David Lloyd 6-4.
Saturday saw Collingwood 10’s boys entertain Ponteland at Priors Park.
With Christian Sharp and Dan Collins losing, it was down to Gabe Allonby and Matt Smith to level the tie, winning their singles and the doubles to take it to a tie break.
Collingwood opted for the Allonby/Sharp pairing and were rewarded with a close 10-8 victory to take them further ahead of the Northeast Aegon 10s A league.
