TyneMet College recently hosted a two-day archery tournament at its Coast Road Campus run by the North East Archers.
The tournament, organised by TyneMet College sport maker, Sarah Bennett, was designed to entice those who had never before taken up a bow before to come along and have a go.
Students and staff of all abilities were encouraged to participate in the programme and enjoy a new activity in a friendly and fun, non-threatening atmosphere.
The event proved to be extremely popular with over 130 students and staff from the college and some members of the local community undertaking the challenge and learning how to fire an arrow. Everyone who took part said that they really enjoyed themselves and it was definitely a sport that they would like to learn more about.
During the competition there was an exciting head-to-head as two students who had never held a bow before, went up against each other, amazingly matching each other shot for shot, both shooting perfect arrows into the gold bull’s-eye of their targets.
Sarah Bennett said: “This two-day event was a huge success, many of those who took part had a natural ability and others who needed more practice were determined to better themselves in the future. With this in mind we are planning to set up an archery club at TyneMet College which will be accessible to the staff, students and the local community.”
