IT was first round day in the County Cup but with both North Shields Crusaders and Artisans being handed a bye, potential opposition was hard to find and a tough looking fixtures against higher league opposition in Medicals Serpents was the challenge for the Artisans.
Ian Swinbank was the captain forming a centre partnership with Steve Robson. The latest father and son combination for the club took to the field with Ian Dickinson and son Graham playing alongside each other for the first time. Elsewhere Pete Dyers and Bruce Jeffrey both made their first starts since returning to playing.
Both sides were short so it was 14-a-side and the match was played with uncontested scrums which probably played in the visitors hands. They were a young, fit and well drilled side and scored 13 tries with five conversions on way to a 75-0 victory.
Next week the Crusaders are back in County League action with a trip to Seghill Deputies, kick-off 2.15pm.
