As part of North Tyneside’s Age Takes Centre Stage Festival there will be a social badminton tournament especially for players aged 50 and over.

Players are welcome to enter provided they do not represent the county or play on any club’s league teams.

The first over 50s social tournament, held in February this year, was a huge success, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who took part.

Tournament organisers are hoping for another excellent entry.

Volunteers from Bewicke Badminton Club, a member of the North Tyneside Badminton Partnership which organises badminton activities for people of all ages and abilities throughout North Tyneside, are running the tournament, which will have an emphasis on friendly competition and enjoyment.

Initial games will be played in groups, followed by knock-out semi-finals and finals.

Trophies for all winners and runners-up have been provided by Jeera Tandoori of Albion Road in North Shields.

The tournament will take place at The Parks Leisure Centre in North Shields on Sunday, October 11, starting at 1pm with the men’s and ladies’ doubles, followed by the mixed doubles.

The tournament should be finished around 5pm.

The entry fee is just £5 for one event, and £8 for two events.

Entry forms can be obtained from sports centres in North Tyneside, or by contacting the tournament secretary on (0191) 263 7686 or 07881 375559, or by email at viv.harmer@googlemail.com

The closing date for entries to be received is Monday, October 5.
