Boys’ team open the new season with a good win

COLLINGWOOD Tennis Club’s boys 12’s team opened up the new season with a fine win over Stocksfield/Tynedale last Saturday.

With a full strength team out, the group look strong in both county leagues this year.

Gabe Allonby opened the scoring for the home team with an impressively quick 4-0, 4-0 singles victory playing at number two.

Alex Jay playing at number three had an equally impressive result in beating county player Dan Senior 4-1, 4-1 in under an hour.

Matthew Smith’s debut for the team was a solid 4-2, 4-2 victory, which meant at least a draw for the home team.

Sam Allonby, playing at the number one position, let slip a set lead to finally succumb 10-2 in the third set of his singles match.

But then the Allonby brothers combined in almost telepathic style to take the doubles in two sets and close out the match for a 4-2 Collingwood win.
