THE Collingwood Tennis Club Boys Under-12s kept up their unbeaten start to the season by beating Blaydon last weekend.
Number one and two Aidan Elliott and Sam Allonby got the team off to a great start with comprehensive singles wins in straight sets before Hugo Meecham and Tom Ridley won a more competitive doubles in two sets.
Tom Ridley played some great tennis to win his singles 4-0, 4-0 to complete the win, and then Allonby and Elliott won the doubles 4-0, 4-0 to go through the day without dropping a single game.
Meecham then completed the 6-0 rout by winning the number three singles 4-2, 4-1.
Collingwood Boys Under-16s have had some tough matches of late and Saturday’s loss to Shotley and Benfieldside was another.
Matt Wilkinson and Harry Cox teamed up well for the doubles but were on the wrong side of a 4-2, 4-1 score.
Star for the home team on the night was Dan McDermott, who came through a marathon two hours-plus match with Shotley’s number two eventually holding his nerve to win 5-4, 4-5, 11-9.
Number one Olly Drake was unlucky not to get anything out of his singles but combined well with Dan McDermott to win the doubles in straight sets 4-2, 4-2. The end result was a 4-2 win to Shotley.
Collingwood’s Under-10 Greenball team had a great match at Ponteland on Saturday with Alex Jay and Emily Harrison playing well to win their singles in straight sets, Lucy Cox and Ben McDermott played good tennis but ended up losing in close singles matches.
Jay and McDermott paired up to win the boys’ doubles and take the score to 3-2.
Despite playing some excellent tennis the girls’ doubles were narrowly beaten to end the match 3-3.
