A pupil from King’s School is celebrating after overcoming fellow golfers and testing conditions to be named Northumberland Schools Golf champion.
The Tynemouth school had two Year 11 pupils – Bradley Robinson and Christian Brown – at the event held at Prudhoe Golf Club.
Conditions were tough due to strong blustery winds and the greens were not at their best after the winter.
However, Christian, playing off a 12 handicap, shot gross 85, net 73, whilst Bradley really battled with the adverse conditions and came in with a superb 75 gross.
Bradley, 16, from Whitley Bay, has a handicap of 3 and although two others shot a 75, he won on count back to become Northumberland County Schools U18 Champion for 2013. He will now compete in the North of England Championships later in the season.
Bradley, Northumberland County U18 vice-captain and member of Westerhope Golf Club, said: “I’ve been playing for about four-and-a-half years since my granddad got me interested in the game.
“With the strong opposition and tough conditions, I didn’t expect to win but I enjoy the competition and finding the tactics to win.”
