YEAR 7 of Burnside Business & Enterprise College in Wallsend reached the north east area final of rugby league’s Carnegie Champions Schools Tournament.
The competition is open to every secondary school in England, Wales and Scotland and is the world’s biggest rugby league knockout event.
The winners of this match being only three games away from playing at Wembley before the Challenge Cup Final.
The north east area final took place against St John’s Roman Catholic Comprehensive School of Bishop Auckland.
In a close game played on a quagmire pitch the Wallsend boys valiantly went down by two tries against an experienced rugby playing school.
Matty Smith scored two tries and two conversions with other tries by Reece Lambert, Tom Wood and Connor Lawson.
A great achievement by the boys and their manager Kevin Neighbour in their first season playing rugby league.
