A CHARITY is preparing to tee off for an annual fundraiser.

Organisers or Tynemouth RNLI Golf Day are hoping to attract more than 150 golfers to the event.

Over the years it has been well supported by teams representing local golf clubs and businesses.

Dave Stafford, one of the four event organisers, said: “We have fantastic support from our sponsors – JF Potts, Collingwood Insurance, DP Construction and Royal Bank of Scotland – whose continued support is invaluable in holding the event.

“It encourages teams to return every year and continue to help raise much needed funds for the RNLI, further enticed by team prizes, prizes for the longest drive and nearest the pin, and the promise of a good meal at the end of their round.”

It takes place at Tynemouth Golf Club on Friday, September 9.

Mr Stafford added: “We are indebted to Tynemouth Golf Club for its support through the full use of its course and facilities for the day.

“We have raised more than £91,000 in the ten years the golf day has been running and we hope to smash our £100,000 target this year.

“The money raised goes directly towards keeping the Tynemouth RNLI lifeboats in operation so they can continue to save lives at sea.

“So far during 2011 the Tynemouth station has launched its lifeboats 48 times and rescued 115 people.”

Teams of four players (men, women or mixed) interested in entering should contact Dave Stafford on 07894 596310.

The entry fee is £195 per team and includes refreshments on the ninth, dinner after the round, followed by the prize-giving and a fundraising auction.
