Members of two local judo clubs were in the medals at an event last weekend.

Eleven members from Wallsend’s Bushido Judo Kwai and three from Ronin Judo Club in Morpeth competed at the Northumberland Club’s for Young People Open Judo Championships at the Parks Sports Centre, Howden Road, North Shields.

After an excellent day of competition the members gave a good account of themselves by winning four silver, two bronze and eight runners-up medals.

The silver awards were won by Lydia Bamford, William Compton, Zac Ellerby and Kadie Henderson, the bronze by Rachael Bate, Ben Van Denton, and the runners-up went to Adam Bamford, Jessie Beckingham, Jess Cairns, Jack Compton, Daniel Holmes, Sam Holmes, Callum Taylor and Millie Williams.

The well organised event attracted more than 140 entrants.
