COLLINGWOOD Tennis Club’s Aegon 12 and under league team had a tough 10-2 loss to top of the table Ponteland at Priors Park, Tynemouth.
Sam Allonby faced county number two Chris Jeffries and played well but could not match his opponent’s consistency.
The star for the home team was Alex Jay who used his left hand slice serve to great effect in beating county number nine Gabriel Rodda 6-3, 6-2.
Ben McDermott and Jack Woodward lost their singles.
Allonby and Jay showed good touches at the net in the doubles before eventually losing the match 6-3, 6-4 and the tie 10-2.
Collingwood Girls 16’s II team had all four players making their debut against Shotley.
Despite losing 6-0 the team of Joanne Cooper, Amy Hedworth, Molly Robinson and Lauren Wall competed well.
Cooper came closest to a win, eventually losing in a close third set tie-break. Wall performed really well in her first ever match and was the last player on court showing great determination.
