COLLINGWOOD Tennis Club’s boys 12s C team had a narrow loss last Saturday to Stocksfield in the Northumberland and Durham leagues.
Ben McDermott and Jack Woodward, at numbers one and two for Collingwood, had tough matches in the singles and were unable to register a point for the home team.
Playing in their first fullball fixture, the stars for the home team were Jamie Wills and Matthew Smith, who not only won their doubles in straight sets but also went on to win both singles in straights sets to bring the score level at 3-3.
The match was so close it went down to a games countback which Stocksfield won 43-40.
Meanwhile Collingwood continued their domination of the Mini Orange County League by beating Cullercoats.
Jasmine Hacioglu and Mia Wallace played well in their first doubles together, in what was also Hacioglu’s debut in the league.
Collingwood Orange team of Gabe Allonby, Matt Smith, Dan Collins, Christian Sharp, Anna Winship, Clara Loughlin, Mia Wallace, Libby Hall and Jasmine Hacioglu have now won the County North Aegon Orange League with a record five wins from five and an 80 per cent win ratio.
The Orange team have won three leagues back to back. Since winning the Aegon Orange League last year they have gone on to win the Winter Indoor County Orange League as well as this year’s Aegon County Orange League, proving they are the best nine and under team in the county by some way.
