COLLINGWOOD Tennis Club’s two mini tennis red and mini tennis orange teams are still unbeaten in the Northumberland Winter Mini Tennis Leagues.
All three teams top their leagues after last weekend’s matches in which the Collingwood ‘crew’ team (Christian Sharp, Ellis Collings, Jack Boddy, Mia Gales, Lucy Giles and Libby Hall) beat Northumberland County Ground by ten matches to six, wit Gales starring for the ‘crew’ with four wins out of four.
In the other red league, Collingwood Cougars team of Sam Thompson, Josh Harrison, Ben Kernohan, Clara Loughlin, James McMeekan and Mya Matthews are well ahead of their nearest rivals after a 15-1 win against David Lloyd Allstars last weekend.
The three ‘seasoned pros’ of Harrison, Thompson and Loughlin again won four matches each and none of them has yet to be beaten in a singles match in the league.
Matthews also did exceptionally well, playing some great serve and volley points to win three out of four matches on the day.
The Collingwood mini orange team of Anna Winship, Anna Ruoff, Victoria Harman, Gabe Allonby, Matthew Smith and Dan Collins had a weekend off but still sit on top of the league with one game to play.
Collingwood Tennis Club orange champion, Gabe Allonby, is currently topping the Winter County Mini Orange leaderboard after good results in winter tournaments including winning the Sunderland Winter County linked event in December.
Gabe, who is a pupil at Priory School, attends squads with level four club coach Stuart Cass at both Collingwood Club and Wearside Club as well as accessing the Northumberland high performance centre once a week.
Club coaching at the Collingwood club is all day Saturday from 9am until 3.30pm, contact Stuart Cass 07787 543072 for details.
