Collingwood Tennis Club’s boys 14 and under team pipped Bohemians at the post with a shoot-out victory last weekend at Priors Park after the match had ended 3-3.
Dan Collins and Ellis Collings had given Collingwood a lead with two singles victories, then Collings teamed up well with number one Matthew Smith to win the doubles in straight sets.
But with Collings and Jordan Hill losing a close number two doubles 10-8 in the tie-break, the match went to the shoot-out.
Collingwood opted for Smith and Hill, who played solid tennis to win 10-5 and take the match.
Collingwood move up to third in the table with the win.
Collingwood’s mini red team had a tougher time against Ponteland last Sunday, losing 9-7 in the title deciding game.
Ethan Veitch won all four matches for Collingwood and Elizabeth Graham, Max Thompson and Adam Jones all played well but it was not enough to stop a strong Ponteland team winning the league with Collingwood a creditable second.
