Collingwood Tennis Club’s girls capped the Aegon league double last weekend of Aegon north east girls 12 and 14s league titles despite a 8-4 loss to Virgin active Sunderland.
Laura Van Ransbeke lost a close game at number one singles before Ailsa Denholm replied with a Collingwood win and Esmai Jonczyk-Brown also won the number three singles to give Collingwood a 2-1 lead.
Laura Day making her 14s debut played some inspired tennis but was unable to beat an older opponent and with both doubles games going to the Sunderland team Collingwood ended up losing their first game of the season 4-8.
However the season’s matches played favoured Collingwood who took the 14s Aegon league for a second successive year by virtue of greater win percentage.
Collingwood girls 12s teams currently top both the Northumberland and Durham A and B leagues after weekend wins over Cullercoats and Tynedale respectively.
For the A team Emily Harrison and Lucy Cox paired up well to win the doubles and both won their singles as did Mia Wallace and Jasmine Hacioglu at number three and four in a 6-0 win.
For the B team Clara Loughlin, Anna Winship, Libby Hall and Jasmine Hacioglu won all matches in another convincing 6-0 win over Tynedale to take them top with four wins out of four.
