Collingwood Tennis Club’s girls 14 and under team went top of the Aegon Northeast table with one game to play after a fine 12-0 win over Northumberland last Saturday at Priors Park.
Laura Van Ransbeke, Ailsa Denholm and Esmai Jonczyk-Brown all won comfortably, and with under-14s newcomer Emily Harrison winning a tough battle at number four singles the win was secured.
The team just have Virgin Active Sunderland to play to retain the league they won last year.
Collingwood boys 14s also had a good win over Cullercoats at Priors Park, with Tom Ridley, Gabe and Sam Allonby all winning singles and Ridley and Matt Robson combining well to win the number one doubles in a 10-2 victory.
Collingwood boys 12s team of Gabe Allonby, Alex Jay, Matt Smith and Joran Hill also had a fine shoot-out victory over Eldon Grove at Hartlepool.
With the scores tied 6-6 the match ended in a dramatic shoot-out with Allonby and Smith coming through for Collingwood 10-8 to take the win and secure a second placed league finish.
