MONKSEATON Cricket Club has selected a new and improved venue for their winter training.

From Wednesday, January 18, players will be at the Newcastle Cricket Centre at South Northumberland Cricket Club in Roseworth Terrace, Gosforth.

Monkseaton are looking for new members to take up the advantage of the centre’s latest facilities, including bowling machines and coaching. The sessions run from 8pm.

Monkseaton are based at Churchill Playing Fields and run a first, second and third team, which all play on Saturdays from mid-April, as well as occasional Sunday friendly games.

Club secretary Tony Errington said: “Last season, our first team won the Dr Tom Barlow Cup and just missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

“The club is very strong, with around 40 adult and junior members. Very few other clubs in the region can manage to get three teams out on a Saturday.

“As well as playing competitively, the club also offers a great social life.

“In recent years, we’ve had winter nets at a number of venues but we wanted to choose a particularly good venue to make use of bowling machines and coaching.

“We’re looking for new members. Obviously, it’d be great to get strong players but we have teams offering something for all ranges of abilities.”
