NORTH Shields Crusaders travelled to Hillheads to play top of the table Rockcliff Rangers in this county league match.
Gareth Ruddle was captain for the match while Dominic Casey made his debut in the centre, Rob Dixon played his first game of the season on the wing and Graham Dickinson started in his first Crusaders match at full-back.
The visitors started well and Casey scored an early try which was converted by Jack Jeffrey.
Crusaders dominated for the next 20 minutes but failed to convert their possession into any points.
Later in the half Jeffrey scored a penalty before two quick tries from Josh McGlen were added just before half-time. Jeffrey was successful with the extras on the first making an interval score of 22-0 to the visitors.
In the second half changes were made to give everyone a game.
Ruddle, who led by example, crashed through to score a try.
Rockcliff were next on the score sheet with a try but the Crusaders responded straight away with a try from debutant Duncan Steed, with Jeffrey converting.
The final try came again from Steed to make the final score 39-5 to Crusaders.
This weekend the Crusaders are again in league action with Jarrovians the visitors to Preston Playing Fields, kick-off is at 3pm.
