NORTH Shields Crusaders returned to league with a comprehensive win over Consett 3rds.

Props Iain Pearson and Arnie Wilson returned to the starting line up after bench duties last week. Matty Dockey and Sean Craggs from last season’s youth section were both in the line-up while Ben Cockburn played for the visitors to give them a full side.

The Crusaders got off to a fast start with two quick tries from winger Richard Sampson to take an early 10-0 lead.

Consett came back with some pressure on the Crusaders line but some good defence restricted them to scoring only a penalty.

Next on the score sheet was Tony Lion scoring a pushover try.

The final try of the half was from Matty Dockey, a sensational run from his own half beating several defenders to score under the posts, Garry Whittle added the conversion to give a half-time score of 22-3 to the hosts.

The second half saw Bruce Parker make the game safe with a try and the conversion was added by Jack Jeffrey. Next Richard Sampson completed his hat-trick with a try in the corner.

Consett then scored a consolation try which was converted.

The final score of the day came from stand-off Garry Whittle to give the Crusaders a win of 39-10.

Next week the Crusaders travel to Novos Centurions again in the league, kick off at Sutherland Park is 3pm.
