Cullercoats Tennis Club’s girls 14 and under team maintained top position in the LTA winter Northeast league after a hard fought victory over Collingwood Tennis Club last Sunday in blustery conditions.
Rachel Foreman opened the scoring for Cullercoats at the number one singles position before the performance of the day from Emma Charlton saw her win the number two singles also in straight sets.
Lydia Clark and Steph Black played well in losing a close third set doubles match, and although both singles were lost ,the contest was close.
With the scores at 3-3 it was down to Foreman and Black to hold their nerve to win the shoot-out 10-8 and take the points for Cullercoats.
The Cullercoats mini red first team of Sam Knowles, Zoe Parkin, Max Boxshall and Paul Freeman won the mini red league at David Lloyd Newcastle after they won all their matches with a 94 per cent win ratio.
Cullercoats second team came a creditable fourth in the league after a strong 14-2 victory over Northumberland last weekend.
The much improved Evey Walker won two singles and Matthew Twigg, Noah Johnson and Dougie Gauld won all four matches to take the tie.
Meanwhile Cullercoats mini red thirds performed well in a narrow 9-7 loss to top of the table Ponteland, with Alex Courage, Alex Licciardi, Sophie Jackson and Olly Cass all competing well and winning games for the team.
