Cullercoats Tennis Club girls’ 16 and under team opened their Aegon Northeast League account with an 8-4 win over Shotley at the weekend.
Emma Charlton won a three set game at No. 1 singles and combined well with No. 2 Rachel Foreman to take the doubles rubber.
Steph Black won in straight sets at No. 3 and Harriett Mutch played well despite giving away quite a few years in age at No. 4 singles in a close loss.
With Foreman winning at No. 2 singles, Cullercoats enjoyed a good 8-4 victory to sit top of the league after the second round of fixtures.
Cullercoats boys’ 12s team also enjoyed a good 5-1 victory over Cramlington with Dom Wilson Baker anchoring the team well at No. 1 singles with an emphatic win.
With Archie and Alfie Stokes also winning in straight sets but Oscar Daniel unlucky to lose in two close sets, Cullercoats took a 3-1 lead into the doubles.
Cullercoats dominated the doubles winning both games in straight sets to take the match 5-1.
