Cullercoats Mini Tennis orange team opened the season with a draw at home to Gosforth last Saturday.
Alfie and Archie Stokes, Dominic Wilson-Baker and Paul Freeman were all making their team debut at Orange level and performed well against a strong Gosforth team. Archie Stokes opened the scoring for Cullercoats with a good three set win at number two singles. The Stokes brothers also teamed up well to win the number one doubles. With the match poised at 5-4 to Cullercoats it was down to Wilson-Baker and Freeman in the last doubles and things were looking good when they took the second set 7-5. It was not to be however and when they lost the third set 7-5 a 5-5 draw was a fair result all round.
Cullercoats mini red teams found their first league matches a bit tougher up at David Lloyd Newcastle with both the mini red second and third teams losing to strong teams from Ponteland and Northumberland Club. The second team of Alex Courage, Evie Walker, Lucas Bowler, Noah Johnston and the third team of Thomas O Hara, Olly Cass, Alex Licciardi and Sophie Jackson did really well with most playing in their first match and many giving away as much as three years in age difference.
