Two eight-year-old mini tennis players have been selected to attend the LTA North of England Regional eight and under training camps.

Sophie Jackson and Oliver Cass, who both play and train at Cullercoats Tennis Club, along with Teddy Prasadnikova from Northumberland Club, were selected from the north east region to attend training.

Of the nine boys and six girls selected, the bulk of players have come from the north west with many players from Bolton, Wigan and Manchester.

Working at nine and under orange ball level, both players have benefitted from the extra training in Hull and Manchester in recent months, which has been taken by LTA national age group captains as well as LTA talent performance manager Chris Peet and regional performance co-ordinators John Loughton and Andrew Wilkinson.

As well as technical and tactical work through drills and matchplay, the players have also been put through their paces with regular physical testing evaluations.

Both players hope to put the extra practice to good use in the Northeast Winter League next weekend representing Cullercoats.
